YOUR LEGISLATORS’ VOTES COUNT!
Why are we here? PSR Colorado (Physicians for Social Responsibility) believes that public officials’ first responsibility is to minimize threats to the health and safety of the people they serve. This responsibility includes making energy decisions that protect our air and water from hazardous pollutants released by oil and gas production and use, and from radionuclides released by uranium mining and nuclear reactor operations. Affordable, renewable energy sources like solar, wind, geothermal, and batteries are readily available to replace these hazardous, polluting, and costly fuels.
Unfortunately, during the 2025 session, most Colorado legislators voted to pass the pro-nuclear bill, HB25-1040 “Adding Nuclear Energy as a Clean Energy Resource”, and Governor Polis has signed it into law. HB25-1040 redefines nuclear power as a “clean energy resource” that can compete with renewable sources for government benefits and for use by utilities to meet clean energy standards. Due to the large amount of hazardous radioactive waste produced by uranium mining and nuclear reactor operations, nuclear power can never rightfully be considered “clean”.

We are also glad to share that SB25-280, the “Data Center Development & Grid Modernization Act” failed in the 2025 legislature. However, it came too close to passing and we shouldn’t have to fight this bill again next year.
Click here to tell your state legislators and Governor Polis to oppose new corporate give-aways for data centers.
SB25-280 would have awarded tax breaks and regulatory shortcuts to corporations operating large new data centers in Colorado. Health professionals serving on our PSR Colorado board submitted this letter to legislators expressing concern that the bill does not assure that “Coloradans are protected from the well-documented climate, health, water, and energy cost burdens that accompany data center development.” SB25-280 favored corporate interests over the public interest at a time when federal regulations are being cut and our state faces large budget shortfalls and growing energy demands that increase the risk of higher utility rates and of slowing the transition away from polluting fossil fuels.
Please call and thank these Senate Appropriations committee members for stopping SB25-280.
